Jesus does not call His followers to make disciples through their own strength or wisdom. He sends us with His authority and promises His presence as we obey His command to help others follow Him.

Digging Deeper
After His resurrection, Jesus gave His disciples a clear mission: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” But before He gave the command, He reminded them of something important: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
The mission of making disciples begins with who Jesus is. The disciples were not sent because they were powerful, experienced, or perfectly prepared. They were sent because Jesus, the risen King, had all authority. Their confidence came from His authority, not their own ability.
Jesus calls His followers to make disciples by going, baptizing, and teaching others to obey everything He commanded. Discipleship is more than helping someone know about Jesus. It is helping people follow Him, grow in His Word, and become more like Him.
This command was not only for the first disciples. Jesus continues to call His church to participate in this mission today. And the incredible promise is that we never do it alone. The same Savior who sends us also promises, “I am with you always.”
I find great confidence in knowing that when Jesus calls us to help others grow in Him, He does not leave us to figure it out on our own. As I disciple others, I can trust that He will guide my words, my actions, and my decisions through His wisdom and direction. The goal is never to bring attention to ourselves, but to point people to Jesus so that He receives all the glory and honor.
As disciples of Jesus, we are not called to simply receive what He has done for us. We are called to help others know and follow Him, trusting that the One who gave us the mission will also provide everything we need to carry it out.
👣 Your Next Step
Identify one person you can intentionally encourage in their walk with Jesus this week. Take a step toward helping them grow by asking about their faith, praying with them, or having a conversation about following Jesus.
🤔 Pause & Reflect
Do I view disciple-making as something I am called to do with Jesus’ authority, or do I avoid it because I am relying on my own confidence and ability?
🔥 Live on Mission
Just like in the next steps section, pray for one opportunity this week to help someone take a step closer to Jesus. Be intentional about looking for a conversation where you can encourage, teach, or point someone toward Him.
🤲 Prayer
Jesus, thank You for giving me a purpose beyond myself. Help me remember that You have all authority and that I do not make disciples in my own strength. Give me courage to obey Your command, wisdom to teach Your truth, and a heart that desires to help others follow You. Thank You for promising to be with me as I live on mission for Your kingdom. Amen.
