Sometimes we can get so focused on going to heaven that we forget what Jesus actually called us to do while we’re here.
Following Jesus was never presented as something that would always be easy or convenient. He calls us to lay down our own way and learn to live His way. In Luke 9:23, Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
The person who has truly been changed by Jesus should have a genuine desire to follow Him. We should care about the things He cares about, take sin seriously, love people well, forgive others, serve when it’s inconvenient, and obey even when we’d rather do something else.
Heaven is a wonderful promise for those who belong to Christ. We should indeed look forward to it, but we should also want to live for Jesus while we’re here.
