Digging Deeper
After His resurrection, Jesus gave His followers a mission that would shape the future of His church. Before He told them to make disciples, He reminded them who He was: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Discipleship begins with Jesus. We do not make disciples because we have all the answers, but because the One who has all authority has called us.
Jesus commands His followers to “make disciples of all nations.” He did not call us simply to share information about Him or invite people to church. He called us to help people become lifelong followers of Jesus, teaching them to know Him, obey Him, and grow in their relationship with Him.
Early in my walk with Jesus, I did not fully understand discipleship. I knew about attending church, learning Scripture, and being part of a Christian community, but I did not realize that Jesus calls every believer to both be discipled and make disciples.
When I read Matthew 28:18-20 and truly understood Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples,” it changed my perspective. I remember writing the word “GO” in big letters under that passage because those two letters stood out to me. Jesus was showing me that following Him was not about sitting back and simply receiving. It was about growing in Him and helping others take their next step with Him.
The amazing truth is that Jesus does not send us to do this alone. He ends this command with a promise: “I am with you always.” The same Jesus who gives us the mission gives us His presence to carry it out.
As disciples of Jesus, we are called to keep growing while helping others grow. We are not meant to simply receive God’s truth, but to live it out and pass it on.

Make a list of the people you see on a regular basis that you can begin talking to them about Jesus. Consider how much it would benefit them to hear about God’s goodness.
🤔 Pause & Reflect
Am I actively helping others follow Jesus, or have I viewed discipleship as something only for pastors and church leaders?
🔥 Live on Mission
Look for one opportunity this week to invest spiritually in someone else. This could be through encouragement, prayer, sharing Scripture, or having a conversation about what Jesus is teaching you.
Discipleship grows when we are willing to take what Jesus has taught us and help others follow Him too.
🤲 Prayer
Jesus, thank You for calling us to follow You and for giving us the mission of making disciples. Help us grow as faithful disciples who obey Your Word and point others toward You. Give us courage, wisdom, and love as we encourage others in their faith. Help us remember that You are with us as we follow Your command. In your name I pray. Amen.
