In Exodus 32:1–6, while Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving God’s commandments, the Israelites grew impatient and asked Aaron to make them gods to lead them. Aaron collected their gold, fashioned it into a golden calf, and proclaimed, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt” (Exodus 32:4). He then built an altar and declared a festival to the Lord, blending idol worship with God’s name. This act was a direct violation of the First Commandment, which states, “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). By creating and promoting the calf as a divine figure, Aaron led the people into idolatry and broke God’s clear command to worship Him alone.
