God gives us extraordinary strength to defeat our temptations but despite the numerous warning signs and prompting of the Spirit, we often keep coming back enticed by the sweetness of counterfeit joy.

Samson’s encounter with the lion is symbolic of temptation. With God’s help, he was able to defeat the lion to live another day. Bound by a Nazirite vow to not touch anything dead, Samson was still drawn in by the alluring reward. Despite the swarm of warning signs, he fell into temptation and then followed up with hiding the truth from his parents.

Is there a specific temptation that keeps causing you to stumble? Pray and ask the Lord to help you remain strong and obedient. Kick that cowardly lion in the butt and never look its way again!

Some time later, when he went back to marry her, he turned aside to look at the lion’s carcass, and in it he saw a swarm of bees and some honey. He scooped out the honey with his hands and ate as he went along. When he rejoined his parents, he gave them some, and they too ate it. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey from the lion’s carcass. – Judges 14:8-9
