Halloween used to be my absolute favorite holiday. I gravitated to all things Halloween including the classic horror movies that came along with the season. I enjoyed decorating my yard with tons of homemade, creepy ghouls and monsters. I simply considered all of it cool, fun, and harmless…but I didn’t realize that it all truly was dark and evil and I was in full support of it. I was simply laying out a welcome mat to the devil and openly invited him into my home and into the hearts of my family. Yikes!

Because I have been born again and walk with Christ, the Holy Spirit convicts me to stay away from all of that stuff. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 directly instructs us to stay away from every kind of evil. The devil is on the prowl (1 Peter 5:8) and he is just waiting for any kind of opportunity to sneak in for an attack.

With the Fall season approaching, there’s always an increase of Halloween related social media activity and department stores quickly fill their shelves with things to help celebrate the holiday. Although most of it seems harmless and cute, it can easily provide a doorway to much darker things. Staying away from evil things like Halloween junk, keeps the enemy far way from you.
