Think about your faith as a glass of water. Would you say that your faith is hot, cold or just lukewarm? Hot water can cleanse and purify; cold water can refresh and enliven. But what about lukewarm water? It carries no similar value and can be just…bleh! In the book of Revelation, Jesus warns the church not to be lukewarm and being that way isn’t good for anything. Jesus is so sickened with lukewarm deeds that He says that He is about to spit the church out in disgust.
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth. – Revelation 3:15-16
Not only is a lukewarm Christian dangerous to themselves but is also toxic to young believers. This is truly is a frightening thing. Their shallow faith can cause so much damage to the church and to hearts for the Lord. How horrifying would it be to have Jesus spit you out and then have nothing to do with you because you failed to listen to His instruction? (Matthew 7:23) Yeah, pretty darn scary! A person with lukewarm faith and deeds has no future with God’s kingdom and eternity.
Don’t pray generic, convenient prayers. Do not call to God only when there is trouble. Don’t claim to know God and live as though He doesn’t exist. Get off the fence and love Him with all your heart, speak to Him in constant prayer and study His word frequently. By doing this, your faith will ignite and become refreshing and pleasing to the Lord.
