Sometimes we need a time-out to get our hearts right with God. In the book of Daniel, scripture shows a perfect example of this occurring.
After having a disturbing dream, King Nebuchadnezzar demanded that all the wise men of Babylon interpret the vision for him. It was only Daniel that was able to decipher the dream which turned out to be discouraging for the king’s future. Nebuchadnezzar pridefully believed it was because of his power alone that Babylon was a great kingdom and he refused to give the glory to God.
Interpreting the dream, Daniel described a time where the king will be driven away from his people and will live with wild animals. He will eat grass like the ox and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven years will pass until Nebuchadnezzar will acknowledge that God is indeed sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone He wishes.
A year later, the king’s dream is fulfilled as explained in the scripture below.
Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird. – Daniel 4:33
After the seven years passed, Nebuchadnezzar’s changed heart humbly began to praised God and gave Him all of the glory that He deserved. God then restored the king’s sanity and gave him a kingdom that was greater than before.
At all times, we need to glorify the King of heaven, because everything He does is right and all His ways are just.
